If a bird can't fly, it walks.

  Watershed

You are the wind beneath my whims.

Where to begin? Oklahoma, I love you.

I had heard about you for most of my life, and visited on occasion. I knew that, like New Mexico, you were dry sometimes, and your sun shone, and you had people. Your people spoke a little differently from my people, but you never made me feel like a stranger. You were the land of Relatives and the Occasional Ice Storm.

You called my mother back a year and a half ago. You offered her low cost of living, better property values, a good job. You required her to sign a loyalty oath, which was a little weird, but I forgive you. It's not always easy being Oklahoma.

One year ago you welcomed me into the fold. And lo, how your streets did run in pretty straight lines! At right angles to one another! And your okra, it comes fried! My chiles flourish in your red red dirt. I drink from the bounty of your Super Cao.

Oh, how your people took me in. They said to me, we've been waiting for you. The buffet is over there. Grab a beer and sit down on our couch. We will not bullshit you. Let us draw pictures.

Oklahoma, it has been a watershed year. I've been in shows. And then I was in some more shows. And yet there will be more shows to come. And I've sold paintings, and traded paintings, and then I sold some more. And now I have a studio (122 1/2 E Main Street in Norman, above Mainsite, open by appt, please come visit).

This is my love song to you.
